DRY NEEDLING
Trigger Point Dry Needling
Dry needling utilizes a thin monofilament needle inserted into painful muscular trigger points for the management of neuromuscular pain and disordered movement. A trigger point is a tight band or muscle fiber that can refer or radiate pain and contribute to restricted motion. The release of a trigger point can assist in improving range of motion deficits, increase blood flow, and modulate the way the nervous system responds to pain. Dr. Manejias is trained in superficial and deep dry needling techniques and dry needling of taut bands of muscle (or trigger points) as originally introduced by Dr. Janet Travell and Dr. David Simons. More advanced dry needling techniques such as peri-neural, tendon, teno-osseous junctions and bone (osteopuncture) may be utilized.
Dry needling is often performed as a part of a multidisciplinary treatment program incorporating physical therapy to address other mechanical deficits and movement patterns.
Dry needling is not Acupuncture but can be performed as part of an acupuncture treatment.
